Why Art Thou Cast Down?

This quote has spoken volumes to my heart tonight.

"We must talk to ourselves instead of allowing 'ourselves,' to talk to us! You must say to your soul: 'Why art thou cast down' --what business have you to be disquieted? You must...exhort yourself, and say to yourself, 'Hope thou in God' -- instead of muttering in this depressed, unhappy way. And then you must go on to remind yourself of God. Who God is, and what God is, and what God has done, and what God has pledged Himself to do. Then having done that, end on this great note: defy yourself, and defy other people, and defy the devil and the whole world, and say with this man: 'I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance, who is also the health of my countenance and my God.'" ~Martyn Lloyd-Jones

The sons of Korah wrote two of my favorite Psalms (42 and 43), which were likely one Psalm joined together originally.

As the deer pants for the water brooks,
so my soul pants for You, O God. (v.1)

The hunger of my soul for God is immense right now. I long for him...and cannot quite get a satisfying drink.

I'm sorta stuck on this part: "Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me?" (v. 5)

Ah but the answer is so quick in v. 6, "Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, for the help of His presence."

Then I'm reminded of what I most need: Psalm 46: 3-4, "O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill and Your dwelling places. Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And upon the lyre I shall praise You, O God, My God."

Send out Your light and truth, Lord. Let them lead me. I want to surrender even still and I am just beginning to see where... I cannot fix this Lord, only You can.
