Finished Hinds Feet on High Places

Today we finished Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard. It was a lovely experience to share Much Afraid's journey to the High Places and joyful return to the Valley of Humiliation in service to the Shepherd. If you are looking for something wonderful to read, either for yourself or as a read aloud to children, (best for 12 and up, due to the nature of the allegory), I highly recommend this book.

The fundemental truths resounding in my mind this morning are:

1. Acceptance with joy...knowing that all that happens to me (both the blessed and the terrible) is first lovingly inspected and approved by God, given to me with the best in mind.

2. To bear-in-love with others despite their ugliness against me is to love them as the Father does. Forgiveness is non-negotiable with those that love the Shepherd.

3. The Father knows my frame...He knows that I am but dust and gives me circumstances, people and hardship to make me ever stronger, better...more like Him. He has a perfection in mind for me...and it is to that end that He lovingly applies fire.

4. The last thing I think Grace and Glory (formerly Much Afraid), says best, "Every circumstance in life, no matter how crooked and distorted and ugly it appears to be, if it is reacted to in love and forgiveness and obedience to God's will can be transformed."

I'm really looking forward to the New Year. 2008 promises much.

Happy New Year!
