My mother gave us a fridge about ten years ago. It's a BIG fridge at 25 cubic feet.
I awoke this morning to puddles of chocolate ice-cream, rivers of popsicle juice and mushy bags of strawberries. I "thought" that maybe someone accidently left the door ajar during the night. I cleaned everything up and waited.
At noon time the frozen one pound chubs of hamburger meat began to soften. {sighs}
I admit I freaked out at first. We cannot afford a refrigerator right now.
But then I remembered that God is sovereign. He has a plan.
I chose to trust Him and I placed a call to the repair man.
The repair man came later in the day and advised me that fixing the fridge was not going to be an option. (Unless I wanted to spend $500.00)
I continued to pray and trust, despite every inclination in me to be angry or at odds with God. I am unlike Job. I wish I could handle adversity like he did. I think I'm getting better with each year I've walked with Jesus. There is significant progress to speak of, but I would love to be able to rejoice, rather than fight against the natural inclinations, during times of trial. Does that happen here on Earth?
So anyway, back to the fridge story. I chose to calmly trust that God would provide among a few other options:
A. Wisdom to know how to live without a freezer. (After all, the pioneers did!)
B. Money to purchase a new freezer.
And even if He did not provide an answer, one way or the other, I chose to trust Him and keep on plowing along.
Then something really cool happened.
My mother called. LOL
I shared with my mother about how my freezer was pronounced "Dead, for all time."
She called me back a few minutes later and told me she was sure that my sister-in-law had just put a refrigerator in The Flyer, to be given away free to whomever wanted it. My mouth dropped open.
I hurriedly called my sister-in-law, and yes, she did have a fridge, for no charge, waiting for someone to pick it up ASAP.
The fridge will be here on Saturday. I'm so thankful for God's mercies.
