Stepping Heavenward by Mrs. E. Prentiss

I've read this book twice now. I believe I first read it about five years ago, perhaps? It was a lovely book, full of wisdom and pertinent to my calling as a wife and mother being a journal of a woman as she grows from youth to young married, then on into motherhood and beyond. I learned much during the first reading and count this book as a personal treasure. Recently God called me back to it's pages and used it to deepen my understanding of suffering. I wonder how I could have missed so much when I last read it but I suppose as with any book, one can visit characters and with every visit get to know them better. I find a like minded soul in the protagonist, Katy Mortimer-Elliott, who suffered much but who aspired more and more to become like Christ in a very real manner. This book does not sugar coat the sanctification process, but rather reveals it to be the struggle between flesh and Jesus that it is.

I found myself wanting to copy down wise truths so that I might more fully ponder them. Equally so, I was driven to read on to re-discover the victories fought and won for Katy, by Jesus.
I have four chapters to go and will likely finish it tonight. Filled with spiritual truth, I'm certain to read this book again.
