It's so funny that the topic of what makes our family unique is the chosen meme for today! Just this week I've been pondering these things quite deeply. Why? Because my husband was laid off and I was offered a part time job that is absolutely perfect for me! God is so good to care so deeply for me that He has orchestrated circumstances that excite and engage me....which makes it so much easier to go to work in the morning!
Let's see...what is unique about my family?
My spiritual gifts are encouraging and teaching. I was abused as a child and my heart is to help people overcome difficult circumstances by trusting Jesus.
I am a hands on person. I love "doing." If you teach me something, the best way I'll learn is by doing it. As a result, every job I've ever loved has been in service to others. I was an ophthalmic medical assistant, surgical coordinator and administrative assistant for about ten years before I came home to be a full time mother. Now I'm working part time as a veterinary assistant. My dream job? I have two:
Occupational Therapist or Writer
I have four children, two of whom have had learning challenges. One is on the autism spectrum, the other has a central auditory processing disorder. My third child is gifted and above grade level, while my fourth child, and only daughter, is a beautiful average. : )
I love to save money and as a result I've done my own plumbing, along with small and large appliance repair when possible.
I enjoy helping others choose and use curriculum and methodology wisely. I'm all about "no nonsense." But my "no nonsense," might be total nonsense to you! That's why it's so important to follow Jesus and not man, and you'll see that as a running theme in my posts.
My favorite subject to teach is literature. I enjoy talking about literature, looking for the hidden themes and helping children and others discover the deeper ideas.
My children are amazing people.
My oldest, a junior in high school is fascinated with survival, animals, animal behavior, conservation, and agriculture. He loves to grow things to eat. He currently plays the bass and desires to learn Blues Harmonica. He aspires to live in Alaska.
My second son, a freshman in high school, is a guitar player. His deepest desire is to build his own guitar and learn the art of luthiering. He also wants to learn carpentry skills to have another avenue of income. His sole purpose in his guitar playing is to worship the Lord. He also enjoys graphic design and recently added web design to his portfolio.
My third son, a fifth grader, is a tinkerer. He loves taking things apart and putting them back together again. He loves to repair things. He has helped me with plumbing projects as well as small and large appliance repair. (Washer, air handler, replacing a faucet, replacing a toilet) He enjoys electrical projects and has expressed interest in that career field among others. He too, plays the guitar.
My daughter, a kindergartner, is animal oriented. She recently asked me if we could adopt an elephant. I told her I didn't think the backyard was big enough for an elephant...that it might feel crowded in suburbia. She loves dance, drama and singing and seems to be service oriented. She aspires to be a mommy of seventeen children.
My husband loves music, has an incredible collection of cd's, albums and an Itunes account that overflows. He can name a song, tell what album it came from, where and when it was recorded and under what circumstances. He is service oriented, humble and gentle-natured. An animal lover, a problem solver, and compassionate. He is a deep thinker and enjoys A.W. Tozer, Chuck Colson and Frank Schaaefer.
So that's us! I can't wait to stop by your blogs and learn more about you!
Many blessings,
