Farting and "Is that your granddaughter?"

I had an eventful trip to the food store today.

Waiting at the deli, which was jam packed with shoppers on a Saturday morning, my daughter suddenly exclaimed, "I farted!"

Yep, can you believe it?

There were a few giggles from women who were definitely mothers behind me. I quietly told my daughter, "We don't need to tell the whole wide world when we fluffer." She said, "Oh o.k. Mommy."

A few minutes later (we're still waiting for our ham and cheese), she shouts, "Oops, I just fluffered...fluffered....FLUFFERED!" And starts giggling hysterically.

I was at a fork in the road. Do I reprimand her and try not to be too embarrassed? Or do I join her in hysterical laughter? Well, I sort of did both. {grin}

After she stopped laughing, she sweetly said, "Mommy you smell good." To which I replied, "Why thank you, what do I smell like?"

"Ham, mommy, you smell like ham."

This apparently was more funny than the farting and fluffering comments because now the men, who were waiting with their wives, were giggling too.

But the tears started to come at the cash register. The clerk looked at us and asked, "Oh she is so cute? Is she your granddaughter?" {rollingonthefloorlaughinghystericallynow} When I finally composed myself I said, "Oh no, she's my daughter."

Well the clerk just couldn't leave it alone. She asked further, "Did you have her late in life?" {choking} I quickly related that she was the last of four blessings which completed our family. Gracie and I giggled all the way to the car....with Gracie calling me "Grandma," and claiming that she was not my 'daughter.' So I'm not sure the clerk believed that I was actually her mother! Gracie did clarify once we got to the car that she was my "big girl." She hadn't understood that the word, "daughter" was the same as "big girl." LOL

I'm going to Walmart in a few minutes. Do you think I aught to pick up some wrinkle cream and something to cover up that pesky ham odor? LOL
